Sophie Alicija Joan Axon
b.1999
Sophie Axon is a British-born, Nordic-based freelance writer, editor, communications strategist and cultural researcher working at the intersection of fashion, art, culture and design.
She holds a BA in Art History from the University of York, where she specialised in contemporary fashion theory and history, with a particular focus on the changing female waistline in Victorian England. She later completed an MA in Arts & Cultural Enterprise at the University of the Arts London, focusing on critical inquiry, accessibility, cultural ecosystems, and commercial and cultural strategy.
As a writer and editor, Sophie has contributed to an expansive range of international publications, including Vogue, Wallpaper*, AnOther, Dazed, Porter, ICON, Condé Nast Traveller, Fashion Forum, Allure and Schön, among others. Her work spans criticism, reportage, profiles, essays and cultural analysis, with a particular interest in the ways art, fashion and culture intersect with wider social, historical and contemporary questions.
This interest also informed the launch of Zosia, a substack and editorial platform exploring cultural and personal observations that goes beyond the narratives of traditional media. Sophie has also been interviewed by SPUR Magazine, Condé Nast Traveller, Le Monde and Playground Magazine, among others.
Alongside her editorial practice, Sophie works with fashion, design and arts clients on communications strategy, copywriting, research and editorial support. Her work encompasses books and catalogues, press releases, campaign copy, exhibition texts, artist biographies and international communications strategies. Recent clients include Neous, Sea New York, AZ Factory, Hofmann Copenhagen, Jameson and Appleton Estate.
With more than seven years of in-house and agency experience across PR and communications in the Nordic region, Sophie has worked at both specialist and managerial level with brands including Ferm Living and Tom Wood, contributing to and leading communications, PR and strategic projects across international markets.
Increasingly, Sophie is developing a research-led cultural practice that brings together her background in art history, editorial, communications and cultural enterprise. She is interested in the relationships between art, fashion, objects, collections and audiences, and in creating new ways for cultural knowledge to be interpreted, communicated and experienced. Her current work spans editorial projects, cultural research, curatorial development and collaborations with cultural institutions and creative practitioners across Scandinavia and internationally.
